Abstract

The attempts to justify Kirchhoff integral formula as some a kind of “rigorous” solution to diffraction scalar problems was an interesting field of research in the Scalar Theory of Diffraction. This paper describes a curious agreement (aside from an additive constant and a scaling factor) between Kirchhoff limiting values and the rigorous solution to the half plane problem given by Sommerfeld.
