Abstract

The nonlinear optical properties of the Tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)iron(II) tetrafluoroborate in aqueous solution was investigated by the spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM) technique using CW laser at λ = 532 nm. The experimental results show large nonlinear refractive index (n2) and the thermo-optic coefficient (dn/dT) equal to −3.17 × 10−6 cm2/W and the 3.17 × 10−3 k−1, respectively. The effect of input power of excitation laser and the temporal evolution on the shape of the diffraction patterns were studied. Consequently, the collapse effect of the diffraction ring patterns was explained.
