Abstract

Solutions to classical problems of the theory of diffraction have been considered in two mutually complementary approximations: a monochromatic wave and a pulsed wave. An exact one-to-one correspondence between solution results in the Huygens–Fresnel and Young approximations has been found. The dynamics of the development of the spatial structure of a diffraction field of an ultrashort pulse taking into account edge waves and formation of X-shaped singularities moving at a superluminal velocity has been presented.
