Abstract

In order to discriminate between the diffractive and non-diffractive components of inelastic cross section, two kinds of methods have been suggested by some authors. (i) O'rnel (Diff) ;:::0'81 (Diff) and (ii) O'Jnel (Non-Diff) ;:::td ,. We study these models and get the following conclusion: In the former (the latter), the hadron interactions responsible for diffraction dissociation (non-diffractive production) are not peripheral, but those for non-diffractive production (diffraction dissociation) are peripheral. And it is shown that the former is more favorable than the latter, on the basis of some discussion about the mean charged multiplicity for p-p scattering at pL=l00~1500GeV/c.
