Abstract

A uniform plane wave impacting a coated perfectly conducting wedge with arbitrary apex angle is studied and an alternative solution to the diffraction problem is presented. The coating is made of a lossy dielectric material. The approach uses the physical optics approximation of the electric and magnetic equivalent surface currents placed on the coated wedge and accounts for the oblique incidence with respect to the edge. Useful approximations, analytical integral representations and evaluations allow one to obtain a uniform asymptotic solution of the diffraction matrix. The corresponding diffracted field is approximate, but it allows one to compensate the geometrical optics field discontinuities. Moreover, it is very easy to handle and to implement in computer codes.
