Abstract

The radiation resulting from the uniform motion of a charged particle near (or through) a perfectly conducting sphere as well as near a hemispheric bulge on a metal plane has been considered previously using the method of images known from electrostatics. Here we discuss three topics: polarization of the diffraction radiation on the sphere as well as on the hemispherical bulge, transition radiation on the hemispherical bulge, and the coherent diffraction radiation from a bunch of charged particles.
