<i>Sound of Sunshine, Sound of Rain</i>, by Florence Heide (Parents, 1970). First person narrative describes several days in the life of a blind boy. The details describing morning sounds, voices, how he gets dressed, and how he finds his way about will fascinate children who have normal vision. At the park, he can find the water fountain, call home from a pay phone, or buy an ice cream bar. Striking illustrations of the young black boy make this a beautiful book. Ages 7 to 10. <i>Light a Single Candle</i>, by Beverly Butler (Dodd, 1962). Cathy was plunged into total blindness following surgery for glaucoma. Her experience includes an inadequate boarding school, a training school for using guide dogs, home, and a public high school.
