Abstract

Differentiation in the UK has moved from a theme in special education to a concern for all mainstream teachers. This article examines differentiation, and discusses differentiation in practice under two main headings: structured or systems approaches and integral approaches. Issues and principles faced by gifted education are addressed and a framework for training teachers and learners for the development of autonomous and personalized learning is provided.
