Abstract

Rats were trained to escape from shock in a maze with 3 goal boxes. Repeated training was given after injection of phenobarbital, atropine, or saline and a different goal box was safe under each drug condition. No discriminative conditions other than drug state were available to the rat as a basis for its choice. The rats learned to run the goal box appropriate to their current drug state.
