Abstract

Symmetric block ciphers differential properties with variousround key operations are considered. It is shown that knownciphers with round operations other than XOR after small initialencryption rounds acquire random substitution properties ofcorrespondent degree, but they achieve stationary maximal valuetwo times smaller than maximal value acquired for round operationas bitwise XOR. It is concluded that application of round operationsother than XOR does not lead to significant growth of provablecipher strength. It is mentioned that all iterative ciphersindependently of round key operation type give the same maximalvalues of full differentials according to difference computationoperation as bitwise XOR.
