Abstract

Death rates from cardiovascular disease, and in particular arteriosclerotic and degenerative heart disease in the locally-born and principal migrant groups in Australia have been calculated for both sexes in 10 yr age groups. Migrants from England and Wales and Italy upon arrival have much lower rates than those prevailing in Australia. The longer their period of residence in Australia, however, the greater their death rate from cardiovascular disease becomes, until it significantly exceeds that existing in their countries of origin.
