Abstract
Traumatic lateral patellar instability results in disruption of the medial patellofemoral complex (MPFC), the primary ligamentous restraint to lateral patellar displacement. While anatomic reconstruction techniques have been popularized, the biomechanical contribution of each attachment has yet to be established. The purpose was to determine the individual contributions to lateral restraint of the proximal quadriceps and distal patellar attachment of the MPFC.
