Abstract

A very simple and effective method for detecting life signs for Through-the-wall Imaging applications is proposed and tested on experimental data. The proposed method properly exploits a Continuous Wave Microwave Transceiver working at 10 GHz and takes advantage from the displacement of the chest due to the respiratory movement for deriving a simple differential approach for detecting the respiratory and the heartbeat activities from the measured electromagnetic field. The proposed strategy allows to detect life signs of people in furnished room under concrete walls. The measurement set-up and the applied signal processing strategies are presented.
