Abstract

The electron capture from helium atoms by fast protons is studied within the three-body Born distorted wave (BDW-3B) approximation. The differential cross sections are calculated at impact energies of 50, 150, 300, 400, 500 and 630 keV and the computations of total cross sections are performed at impact energy in the range of 20 keV to 10 MeV. The results of this model for the differential and total cross sections are compared with the available theoretical and experimental data. The total cross sections obtained have excellent agreement with the available theoretical and experimental data, particularly at high impact energies. This method also yields reasonable agreement between differential cross sections and measurements.
