For some time there has been a growing tendency in numerical analysis courses to treat the subjects of difference and differential equations in a single course. The relations between the relevant theories, especially in the linear cases, are so close that this is an attractive and economical procedure, particularly since most numerical methods of solution of differential equations reduce them first to difference equations.
