Different strategies and stages in blended learning based on the diversity of higher education students

Abstract

Blended learning models have been applied in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia. This trend has sparked a surge in interest in blended learning, an instructional approach that combines online learning and face-to-face learning, to create a more flexible mode of education. However, there are some factors affecting how students perceived this learning method. Some feel not suitable for the blended learning system, because they cannot understand the material presented by the lecturer and are constrained by the internet network or lack of signal access where students are located. In addition, the diversity of students’ educational backgrounds such as students from senior high school or vocational school is also something that needs to be considered in blended learning. In this study, we analyzed the blended learning strategies and stage in response to the diversity of students in a private higher education in Indonesia. This research uses qualitative research method. Data were collected using semi-structured and in-depth interview. The result of this research shows various strategies used by lecturers in different major. Besides, this research found that most of the lecturers are in the adaptation and transformation stages.
