Abstract

This paper makes a comparative study on the conventional H∞ mixed sensitivity robust control design, H∞ robust PI control design and μ-synthesis PI control design of a combustion system. It presents the design of the robust performance of the boiler combustion system with the perturbations of the controlled members. It can be used to solve the robustness problems of the boiler combustion system, which can not be done by the conventional H∞ robust performance designs. It is pointed out that the design of the robust performance of the boiler combustion system can be formulated as a H∞ mixed sensitivity problem or μ-synthesis problem, if the uncertainty weighting function and the performance weighting function of robust control of the combustion system are revised appropriately. The selections of the weighting functions of robust control of the combustion system are studied and the H∞ mixed sensitivity robust PI controller and μ-synthesis PI controller are solved. The simulation results of the combustion system show that the proposed μ-synthesis PI control method is the best valid.
