Abstract

Objective: To assess the control rate of blood pressure in monotherapeutic hypertension in China. Methods: This is an epidemiological cross-sectional survey. Patients with clearly diagnosed essential hypertension and without diabetes were enrolled. More than 7000 patients were screened and 2135 of them were treated with one type of antihypertensive drug. The controlled blood pressure was defined as SBP less than 140 mm Hg and DBP less than 90 mm Hg. Results: The mean age of participants was 61.65 years, the mean blood pressure was 141.1/85.4 mm Hg. 1034 were male (48.4%) and 1101 were female (51.6%). The control rate of systolic blood pressure was, which was 57.3% in diastolic blood pressure and 34.7% overall. The highest control rate was 40.0%. The overall control rate order from the highest to the lowest was angiotensin II receptor antagonists, β blockers, diuretics, calcium antagonists and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, but the difference between each group had no statistical significance (P=0.425). Conclusion: The monotherapeutic control rate of hypertension is still low at present, which is better in systolic blood pressure than in diastolic blood pressure. We should pay more attention to combination therapy in hypertension.
