Abstract

Key Points Echocardiographic Doppler measurements do not account for the pressure recovery phenomenon and therefore estimate higher transvalvular pressure gradients (TPG) than invasive catheter‐based measurements. An observed 3‐4 mmHg mean TPG difference between self‐expanding and balloon‐expandable transcatheter valves has been observed consistently, but no clinical significance has been reported. A necessary novel classification system must provide a range of normal and abnormal values for each measurement modality and each valve type.
