Abstract

Abstract Two novel cyano-bridged rare earth-iron complexes have been synthesized based on the reaction of K3Fe(CN)6, Ln(NO3)3·6H2O (Ln = Sm, Gd) and N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA). It is interesting that the two complexes exhibit the different coordination form and crystal structure, in which [Sm(DMA)2(H2O)4Fe(CN)6·5H2O]n ([SmFe]n), shows one-dimensional chain structure with approximately parallel two CN bridging ligands between Sm atom and Fe atom, while {[Gd(DMA)3(H2O)4]2Fe(CN)6}Fe(CN)6·3H2O ([Gd2Fe]) is an isolated trinuclear Gd(1)–Fe–Gd(2) complex with two approximately perpendicular CN bridging ligands between the two Gd atoms and Fe atom. Among [SmFe]n complex exhibits critical temperature Tc = 3.5 K.
