Abstract

A poled single crystal of ferroelectric LiNbO 3 exposing either the (−) or (+) polar surface was employed as a catalyst support, on which Cu thin films were deposited in thickness range 2.5–10 nm. The catalytic activity for the production of formaldehyde from a CH 3OH + O 2 mixture was found to higher for the (−) than for the (+) polar support in the intermediate thickness range.
