Abstract

As of 24 June 2015, there have been 1,354 laboratory-confirmed cases of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection. The first reported case was in September 2012. Since then, sporadic cases, clusters of cases, and outbreaks have occurred in 24 countries, with more than 1000 cases reported in Saudi Arabia (SA). In May–June 2015, a large outbreak occurred in the Republic of Korea.
