SummaryThin films of T7 bacteriophage DNA containing about 30 per cent water were irradiated in air and in nitrogen with 60Co gamma-rays. An oxygen effect on double-strand breakage was shown by sucrose density gradient centrifugation but not by boundary sedimentation analysis.
