Abstract
Abstract : Females, as well as males, of most bloodsucking Diptera, including tabanids, feed on carbohydrate, usually flower nectar. Although tabanids are sometimes of considerable medical or veterinary importance, little research has been devoted to their feeding behavior. During a study of the sensitivity of female tabanids to different chemicals an opportunity arose for comparing the gustatory response to sucrose solutions of different concentrations by newly emerged females of Hybomitra lasiophthalma with the response of females netted in the field. This paper discusses this comparison. (Author)
