Abstract

There are a number Green House Gas (GHG) emission guidelines for palm oil that are frequently used to determine annual GHG level for various purposes, one of which is to develop a mitigation strategy. The objective of the study was to evaluate three different GHG calculation guidelines (RSPO, ISCC, and GHG Protocol) for palm oil and implication on mitigation planning. The three different guidelines and their result on GHG calculation were observed by comparing data activities of emissions sources, emission factors, and cut-off date by using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach and Intergoverment Panel Climate Change (IPCC) guidelines as references. The results of benchmark were then used to determine steps for a mitigation strategy. The result shows that utilization of cut-off date in GHG calculation from land-use aspect has a significant impact on GHG emission calculation result used for the development of mitigation strategy.
