Abstract
Introduction/Objective: In the coming years South Dakota and the entire nation will be experiencing a dramatic growth in the number of elderly persons. A greater proportion of the population will be at an age where end-of-life decisions will be relevant. Already about 25% of deaths in America take place in nursing homes. In 2006, 39% of South Dakota's 7.038 deaths occurred in nursing homes. Interest in this project was stimulated by the question, “Are there differences in end of life care in rural vs.
