Abstract

The relationship between the MPI scores and five other measures obtained by a group of part‐time day release students are examined in the light of Eysenck's theory of personality. On one measure (social attitudes) the theory was confirmed, and in three—body build, persistence, level of aspiration—the evidence was inconclusive. In the fifth case—the connection between introversion and a low Matrices/vocabulary difference—the prediction is not confirmed. It is suggested that within this particular social group verbal/non‐verbal ratios are perhaps better explained by reference to drive level (or motivation) and to rewards (or incentives) than by the theory linking conditionability with introversion.
