Differences between quantum kinetic phonon beats and Raman beats

Abstract

Photon echo experiments on CdTe show a surprising oscillation with 34 fs period which is attributed to the quantum kinetics of holes coupled to LO phonons---different from the corresponding Raman beat with 195 fs period by a factor of five. The experimental findings are compared with microscopic quantum kinetic theory for intermediate polaron coupling leading to good agreement.
