Abstract

In this article, we estimate the determining factors of wage differences according to disability, focusing on wage differences of those workers with disabilities in Sheltered Employment Centres (SEC). We found that disabled workers in SEC earned 93% of that earned in ordinary companies, and 58% of this total wage difference was not related to differences in characteristics. The more severe the disability, the lower the wage difference not related to characteristics, which suggests the existence of statistical discrimination in SEC and ordinary companies. The database comes from administrative records of Spanish Social Security.
