Dielectronic recombination of multiply charged ions

Abstract

Using a merged electron-ion beam apparatus in conjunction with the ORNL EN Tandem Van de Graaff, we have measured dielectronic recombination in Δn = 0 transitions for a number of Li-like (B 2+, C 3+, N 4+, and O 5+), Be-like (C 2+. N 3+, and O 4+). B-like (N 2+, O 3+, and F 4+), and Na-like (P 4+, S 5+, and Cl 6+) ions. The results are compared with theory which includes field enhancement and extension of the more highly charged ions is discussed.
