Abstract
Focusing on screening effects we demonstrate drastic differences between the isothermal and the isolated response properties of a two-dimensional electron gas in a magnetic field at low temperatures. These differences occur both in bounded and unbounded samples and are caused by their peculiar Landau quantized and highly degenerate energy spectrum.
