Abstract

Results of the static and dynamic dielectric investigations of twelve members of the phenyl-4-(5-alkyl-1,3,2-dioxaborin-2-yl)benzoate homologous series with different lateral and terminal substitutes are presented. These compounds form the nematic and/or smectic A phases. The dielectric parameters are analyzed in relation to the dipole structures of the molecules. In the nematic phase the compounds exhibit a crossover of the principal permittivity components within the megahertz frequency range. This makes them interesting from the application point of view as the so called dual frequency materials. §This article is dedicated to Professor Jerzy A. Janik on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
