Abstract

Some new relations between the electronic and static dielectric constants and the transverse optical mode frequency are obtained using the Mott-Littleton expressions for effective polarization fields. The usefulness of these relations is demonstrated, in explaining the dielectric behaviour of alkali halide crystals under the effect of pressure, by calculating the volume derivatives of dielectric constant and transverse optical mode Grüneisen parameter.
