Abstract

The dosimetric properties of some dielectric plastic films were investigated for measurement of gamma doses in MGy region by using the optical density measurement method and etch rate measurement method. The dielectric plastic films studied include cellulose triacetate, Daicel, Lexan, Makrofol-N, CR-39, and Indian made polyester films EM, EM-6, and ER. CR-39 was not found useful as a dosimeter by both these methods in spite of its high radiation sensitivity, because of a fading effect after irradiation. Polyester film EM-6 was found not useful as a dosimeter by optical density measurement method because of a nonlinear relationship between optical density and dose. Cellulose triacetate was not found useful by the etch rate measurement method because of nonuniformity in etching. Daicel was not studied by the optical density measurement method as it has already been studied by Ram and Bose (1) using this method. The dose range covered was from 0.01 to 0.7 MGy by the optical density measurement method and from 0.1 to 2.25 MGy by the etch rate measurement method.
