Abstract
The dielectric constant ϵprime and dielectric loss ϵdouble prime in the paraelectric phase of polycrystalline potassium nitrate have been measured at 100 KHz and several microwave frequencies. The measured values of dielectric constant and loss were corrected for the reduced density of the sample. A comparison of ϵprime and ϵdouble prime values of the polycrystalline sample is made with previously reported values for a single crystal measured along its ferroelectric axis. It is observed that the relaxation behaviour in the paraelectric phase of a polycrystalline sample is similar to that of a single crystal and that both types of sample show a Debye-type dielectric relaxation, with relaxation times τ inversely proportional to (T-Tc), where Tc is the Curie-Weiss temperature.
