Abstract

It is not surprising, that in the effort to harmonize the overall profile by orthognathic surgery, correction of the nose is also often requested. Osteotomy of the maxilla itself can change the nose both internally and externally, improving shape and function and thus positively influencing esthetics and facial harmony, e.g., leading to the tip of the nose becoming more accentuated. However, negative changes in shape such as widening of the nose due to expansion of the nostrils should be avoided. And then comes the question of simultaneous esthetic improvement of the nose: “Can that not be done at the same time?” We discuss the possibilities for and strategic approach to nose correction as part of dysgnathia surgery. Based on an analysis of the authors’ own small patient sample, we present the techniques we perform for profileplasty with correction of the nose. Furthermore, the results of a posttreatment patient satisfaction survey using standardized questionnaires are presented.
