Abstract

The Berlin Museum has housed the statue of Tjenti and Iimeretef since 1895. This pair was reputated to be one of the best Old Kingdom private pieces of that collection. But in 1978 H. G. Fischer wrote an article about this work of art in order to detect it as a modern fake based upon a couple of irregularities and faults to his mind. The writer of the present text discusses all the irritating details pointing out that several of them are shown together in one of the triads of Mykerinos which might have been the model for the ancient sculptor of the Tjenti group. In overtaking features of the royal prototype into his private statue the ancient owner presumably wanted to elevate himself and his wife to a higher sphere. This could explain the troubling pecularities and support the authenticity of the statue.
