Abstract

The most important brooks, trickles, streams and rivers and their tributaries in the Federal State of Brandenburg were investigated in different habitats continual during 2 years. The occurrence and distribution of black fly species were registrated. 16 species could be found in this area. The dominant characteristic species was Simulium ornatum, but in the Spreewald region it was Simulium erythrocephalum. Further Simulium equinum, Simulium morsitans, Simulium lundstromi and Simulium noelleri are widely distributed. Characteristic limnological data were noted. The velocity and vegetation have an influence on the distribution of black flies in the water systems.
