Abstract

In 1923, seven years after the creation of Dada at the Cabaret Voltaire in Zurich, the St. Petersburg journal Contemporary West published an extensive collection of Dada manifestoes, poetry and drama in Russian translation. The present article is devoted to this contemporary Russian Dada reception which almost has been fallen to oblivion. In consideration of the fact, that some Dada studies refer to this publication from time to time without going into its content, it is the aim of this article, to put a stronger focus on the introduction by Abram Efros as well as on the significantly selection of the translated texts. Furthermore the paper concentrates on one of the Dada translators: the poet, musician and dancer, Valentin Parnakh, who was one of the view Russian activists in Parisian Dada movement and an important agent for dadaism in Russia.
