Abstract

Tetrakis[bis(trimethylsilyl)methyl]dialane(4) with an AAl bond reacts with carbon disulfide without further solvent to give under insertion into the metal—metal bond two products, which were separated by recrystallization from toluene and characterized by crystal structure determination: as the main product a monomeric bis[dialkylaluminiumlsulfide is isolated exhibiting a large AlSAl angle of 117.5° and a short AlS bond length (218.7 pm). In the second, yellow-coloured product the CS 2 unit remains intact binding to one aluminium by the central carbon atom and to the second by the two sulfur atoms in a chelating manner like a dithio carboxylate derivative.
