Abstract

Young isolated apical initials of Stypocaulon scoparium usually regenerate in a bipolar way. Older initials after having produced the basal cell of a branch are reduced in their regenerating capacity to unipolarity, i. e. after each division the polarity of the apical cell must be newly induced.
