Abstract

The East Slavonic Chronicles as Sources for the History of Kievan Rus’ The East Slavic chronicles are considered to be the primary source for research on the history of Kievan Rus’. But only few chronicles give original information about this period. In accordance with their character as compilations most chronicles just hand down the news of their predecessors. This article presents a kind of canon of all East Slavs chronicles with explicit original information on Kievan Rus’. In addition, the necessary background information for the usage of the chronicles as historical sources, comprising emergence, transmission and interpretation of the chronicles, is provided.
