Abstract

AbstractIt is shown, that the density of a dilute solution of styrene and polystyrene of known total concentration represents the composition with high accuracy. An equation relating the density of a solution to the extent of polymerization is derived. A density measuring device according to the mechanical oscillator method proves to be a sufficiently sensitive instrument for determining the conversion in polymerization solutions even of very low concentrations.
