Abstract

The following article provides a new edition of a Lydian-Greek bilingual inscription from the Athena Temple at Pergamon (LW 40). For the first time, the badly weathered Lydian part of the inscription can be read in its entirety, revealing Malis as the Lydian name of the goddess Athena. The bilingual thereby contributes to our understanding of Lydian religion and elucidates the perpetuation of the name Malis in Greek sources
