Abstract

From biographic information given in Protestant funeral sermons, one can obtain knowledge about the upbringing, education and status of women in the urban space. The following article attempts to describe from a micro-sociological perspective the lifeworld of Sibylla Schwarz, who died a premature death in 1638, as presented in Christoph Hagen’s sermon. Taking the aspect of the Querelle des Femmes into consideration, the article aims to compare the lifeworld of the poet to that of other learned women from Wrocław’s urban elite, as is described in selected funeral sermons from Silesia.
