Abstract

The structure of P[P(S)Me 2] 3 (IV) was determined by X-ray crystallography at − 95°C. It crystallises in the space group P2 1 / n, with cell constants a 702.8(5), b 1708.9(10), c 1285.0(8) pm, β 101.99(6)° (at − 95°C) and Z = 4. The pyramidal molecule displays a mean PP bond length of 222.6(2) pm and a mean PPP bond angle of 105.7°. The sulfur atoms are oriented in a manner similar to that of the lone pairs in P[P(Me)SiMe 3] 3. This contrasts with the analogous CH compounds HC[PR 2] 3 (R  Me, Ph) and HC[P(S)Ph 2] 3.
