Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to investigate to what extent Western German experiences with the process of modernisation of mechanisation could possibly serve as an orientation for Polish agriculture, especially with regards to different types of cooperation. In the first part of the dissertation the development of the different types of cooperation are analysed against the background of the structural development of the agricultural sector of Western Germany. Secondly the results of an empirical investigation of selected agricultural farms in the regions of Ermland-Masuren and Lublin (both Poland) are presented. The collected data give valuable information about internal structures of agricultural farms, their state of mechanisation, the future development perspectives as well as the farm managers attitude towards the different types of cooperation. Also the data provides the basis for exemplary calculations of machinery employment on agricultural farms in Poland in the context of the selected form of cooperation. These considerations will furthermore be extended by aspects of investment financing and the determination of the optimal machinery replacement strategy. Finally the general conclusions are summarized and recommendations to three functional groups addressed by this research are given: agricultural farm management, agricultural consultancy and agricultural policy.
