Abstract

Stationary and transient polarization curves of zinc in zinc perchlorate solutions of constant ionic strength, and the current as a function of time after a change of the potential, were measured. It is concluded that the over-all electrode reaction Zn⇄Zn2+ + 2 e proceeds via two consecutive charge-transfer reactions with adsorbed monovalent zinc as the intermediate. The four rate constants and the degrees of coverage are calculated. The area occupied by an adsorbed monovalent zinc is estimated.
