Abstract
bInstitut fur Pathologie, Stadtspital Triemli, Zurich Summary Kikuchi-Fujimoto’s disease ‐ a rare cause of prolonged fever We report the case of a 49-year-old male patient from Ghana presenting with a five-week history of recurrent headache, daily fever up to 39.5 °C with chills and myalgia, 6 kg weight loss, night sweats and fatigue. Computed tomography disclosed generalised lymphadenopathy. Lymphnode biopsy revealed Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD), a condition characterised histologically by histiocytic necrotising lymphadenitis. The main symptoms are fever, chills and lymphadenopathy, but the clinical presentation is variable. To be considered in differential diagnosis are malignant lymphoma, tuberculosis and metastatic lymphadenopathy. In rare cases KFD may be a cause of prolonged fever and fever of unknown origin.
