Abstract
Tillich's concept of the Trinity can be seen as deriving from his understanding of the threefold inner dialectic of life (being in itself, going out of itself, returning to itself), a dialectic that he takes to be evident. In contrast to Tillich's theology which draws upon Neo-Platonic tradition, a theology of the Word conceives of the doctrine of the Trinity as expounding nothing but the pure Gospel - i.e., the nomen proprium Dei.
